Campus news at HSE University

In April, HSE University will host Days of Computer Science (DCS), an annual event organised by the Faculty of Computer Science and its partners. The programme includes popular science lectures and discussions, a student festival, a maths blitz competition, quizzes, film screenings, and much more.

On March 16, the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre will hold the fifth CIBA—an annual educational conference devoted to creative industries. The event is organised by curators and students of HSE University-St Petersburg together with representatives of the New Stage. This year's topic is trend watching, as symbolised by Tetris—reflecting the need to adapt quickly and think ahead in the industry. Entry to the event is free, but advance registration is required.

The selection process for the inter-university student expedition programme ‘Rediscovering Russia’ has concluded. The programme is implemented by HSE University in collaboration with the presidential platform ‘Russia —Land of Opportunity’ and Rosmolodezh’s programme ‘More Than a Trip,’ with support from the Russian Geographical Society. The expert council has approved the first 30 expeditions, with 12 universities and 18 organisations among the winners. These expeditions will take place from April to November 2025, covering 23 regions across the country.

On March 4, 2025, Telecom Day was held at the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). Telecommunications is a key area of education at MIEM, and the event attracted experts from technology companies, teachers of the institute who are engaged in project and research activities in the field, as well as students interested in acquiring professional skills in this area.

Victoria Panova, Vice Rector at HSE University, Head of the BRICS Expert Council – Russia, and Russian W20 Sherpa, was honoured with the badge ‘For Contribution to International Cooperation.’

The ViSaver project—a service for instant in-video search, generating time codes, summaries, and test questions based on video content—made it into the top ten of the ‘I Create Business’ competition track at this year's StudFest International Student Entrepreneurship Festival. Anastasia Semenova, founder of ViSaver and graduate of HSE University’s St Petersburg School of Economics and Management, spoke to the HSE News Service about the project.

On February 8, the most long-awaited event of the winter—the HSE Winter Ball—took place at the Triumph Private Philharmonic in Perm. For several months, the participants rehearsed a variety of dances, prepared gorgeous outfits, and created a charming masquerade fairy tale featuring lace masks, swirling ball gowns, waltzes, mazurkas, and more. In 2025, HSE University-St Petersburg opened the Centre for Russian Language and Culture at the School of Arts and Humanities. The centre offers various courses for international applicants, the largest of which is the 'Pre-University Programme', a Russian preparatory course for those intending to enrol in full-time bachelor's and master's programmes.
