HSE Student Wins IT-Planet competition
Eldar Beibutov, a master’s student on the Information Security Management Programme of HSE’s Faculty of Business Informatics, received first place at the 7th international IT-Planet 2013/2014 student competition.
The competition’s final brought together 180 students and recent graduates in Crimea. These individuals completed various theoretical and practical tasks, demonstrating their high level of knowledge in information technology attained over the last academic year. Finalists from various countries tried to solve tasks using technologies from companies such as Oracle, Cisco, 1С, NetApp, D-Link, Huawei, InterSystems and GNU/Linuxcenter.
Eldar Beibutov defended the HSE’s honour, winning in the category ‘Data transmission technologies in local and global networks’ for Cisco technology. Initially, upwards of 3,000 people participated in Cisco competition. Around 250 people made it to the second round, 20 of whom went on to the final.

On October 26th, 2014, a quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2014-2015 took place at the Moscow State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Two teams from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took 7 th and 11 th places and passed through to the contest’s semifinal.

gold medals were won by the HSE Dance Club at a tap dance championship held in Moscow.
HSE Student at IBM Best Student Recognition Event
In July, IBM brought 70 of the best students from across Europe to Prague for the annual IBM Best Student Recognition Event. Representing the Higher School of Economics at the forum was Alexei Khokhlov, a graduate of the Faculty of Business Informatics and a Master’s student in the E-business programme.
