First-year students can select a minor in their personal accounts beginning at 18.00, March 26. HSE is offering a variety of interesting minors this year, so that students can choose the right minor for themselves.
The Role of Personal Preferences in Economics
Prof. Dr Thomas Dohmen from the Institute for Applied Microeconomics, University of Bonn, Germany is to deliver an honorary lecture at the upcoming April Academic Conference at HSE University April 9 – 12. HSE News Service spoke with Dr. Dohmen about his work on the Global Preferences Survey (GPS), an international survey of epic proportions that he helped develop and analyze in order to learn whether individuals differ in terms of economic preferences by country, and more.

HSE to Adopt a New Development Programme
On March 20, at the HSE Staff and Student Conference, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov presented the key points of the new Development Programme for the period extending to 2030. The points he suggested have prompted a series of discussions in the university corporate environment aimed at choosing the best avenues and tools for development.

How Equality Started in Research
Legally, the 1917 revolution solved the gender issue in the Russian academic community. The doors to the profession opened for women, but a ‘glass ceiling’ remained. Ekaterina Streltsova and Evgenia Dolgova studied who it affected and why. This study is the first to present a socio-demographic analysis of the female academic community in Moscow and Leningrad during the early Soviet era.
Different Perspectives and Different People in HSE’s ‘Semester in Moscow’ Programme
Adrian Murillo Ramirez-Moreno is from Mexico City and is currently a third-year student at Universidad Anáhuac México where he studies International Relations. Nicholas Viggiano, from New Jersey, USA, is a third-year student at the University of Maryland, where he is pursuing a double degree in Russian and Environmental Science. Both are studying in HSE’s ‘Semester in Moscow’ Programme. The programme not only allows students to study Russian language at any level, but to design their own curriculum—students have their pick of any English-taught courses they choose, regardless of field. Students are accommodated in the HSE dormitories and receive an official transcript upon completion of the semester.

At the HSE Staff and Student Conference on March 20, Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov presented a report on how the ‘HSE Development Programme for 2009–2015 and up to 2020’ has progressed since 2014.

Valery Katkalo, former Dean of Sberbank Corporate University, will be taking on the role of HSE Vice Rector for Continuing Education. HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov announced the appointment at the Staff and Student Conference, which was held in Moscow.
HSE Launches India Corner at the School of Asian Studies
On March 19, 2019, HSE hosted a launch ceremony for its new India Corner, which is housed in the School of Asian Studies and will serve as an open space for dialogue and collaboration with regard to Russia-India relations. The Corner will host cultural and scientific events related to the modern development of India, as well as open business seminars between Russia and India.

Telling Stories Festival to Be Organized by HSE for the Second Time
On May 17 and 18, 2019 the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design is organizing its second annual Telling Stories festival. The event attracts renowned film directors, producers, photographers, curators of international projects, and trend-setting designers.
